Every year in Avignon on the summer solstice, the longest day of the year, the community celebrates what is known as La Fête de la Musique. The streets and historic landmarks become stages for people to enjoy a variety of free concerts. This year I was lucky to experience this event with Stephen. We left our apartment thinking we were going out for a quiet walk and we quickly found ourselves a part of a mass of people eating, drinking and dancing the night away.
We came across one DJ who caught our attention. He was using an old Nintendo Game Boy to play parts of his set. He was really great to watch and listen to. He spoke a little English and gave us his card. He goes by the name Jankenpopp. While it’s hard to find something on his site that has the feel of his set that night I’ll leave you with this video that showcases how he works.
